ThinkingWithPortals Mapping Contest - April 2008
Innovation Challenge
The Rules
Current contest rules will always be here:
http://wiki.thinkingwithportals.com/wiki/Current_Contest
1.) All posts except contest entires, screenshots of contest maps, or questions about rules will be trashed. Please keep chat out of this thread!
2.) Map must be new for this content, nothing old or already posted.
3.) Contest ends April 30th at Midnight (EST).
4.) Winner will get their map posted on the Community Spotlight, free Suporter Status, and custom title priviledges for life.
5.) Upload your map at anytime and post a download link (only in this thread, other places will not count) when ever it is finished. You don't have to wait for the last day to upload/release your map. You may post screenshots of WIP maps, but not downloadable content.
6.) Winners will be picked via a 7 day Poll.
7.) Enter as many times as you like.
The Requirements
1.) Maps will be judged on innovation and imaginative design. This contest is designed to make something new that we have not seen before. To put it simply, wow us.
2.) When you submit your map, name the zip/rar file "contest0408_<your name>_<map name>".
3.) Maps must have a correct Bonus Map Script files in place. Maps without this will be disqualified. Read this thread if you're not sure how to set it up.
If you have questions about the Rules and Requirements, please post! The rules for this month's contest are fairly minimal, so you can do anything innovative you think might get you to win. Go crazy!
Good luck! _________________

Let me get this clarified. . .is the following allowed:
1) get your map of the month ready near the end of the month, and submit it under WIP for other people to playtest.
2) Fix any issues found; upload the fixed version.
3) Declare it "finished" by reporting it as such in this thread.
Said another way. . . I know I dont have to "wait for the last day", but is the day I upload it the day its considered released for purposes of the contest? |

No, you cannot release a WIP version. Period. If you release ANY version of a map, it will be taken to be the final release. If you want to fix any errors or bugs to the map, do it after the contest voting has ended. You can however post screenshots or video. _________________

Does the entry need to be set within the Portal universe? Or could it be completely different, the only real restriction being that the portal engine has to be able to run it...
...also, I'm new here, hello thinkingwithportals.com |

Nope, the "setting" doesn't matter. As long as a gameplay element is new and innovative, it's legit. _________________

I think I'm going to do something new with this one, I'm working on something right now, might take a while though, been working on it for a moth now, and it be perfect for this, so I'm gonna try and rearrange alot for this contest. Woot! _________________ --Geardev

Our datafiles clearly state that neither of you have been in the Aperture Science Aquatic Testing Range before, so it should be quite new and innovative for you. However, the Testing Range is currently in serious disrepair, and is being repaired at this very moment. It will be yet a question wheter the repairs will be finished before the deadline, and the Testing Range can participatie in this contest. You will hear more from us once we are capable of providing more information. _________________

This sounds a little ambiguously worded, but I just want to be sure: what you've been working on for a "moth" now won't be rolled into your submission, right? _________________
