Did you restart Portal after extracting them? Portal has to be restarted in order for the custom files to be recognized. |

The tension between LoveGLaDOS and Rainbow Palace is very well deserved; both are clever, creative, and lengthy enough to give you the old "wow" feeling when you finally solve a puzzle, yet still have to steel yourself for the next one coming up.
I voted for LoveGLaDOS mainly due to its replayability. While Rainbow Palace had very unique puzzles (that I thought might be a bit more creative), LoveGLaDOS felt a little more like "natural" portal in there are a dozen ways to get through each part of the level, some horribly clever, others rather generic. For those who are curious as to what I mean, try the portal challenge--I doubt most can make it through in under 25 portals. There's a youtube video of someone beating it with six portals.
Both were absolute uber maps, and I almost wish they were released during separate months so both could get my vote. Exquisite attention to detail was paid, both felt like the original portals, and neither was cake (!) to solve. The LoveGLaDOS puzzles took a little more effort, I felt (it took me far longer to solve) and it replays much better. |

Don't read this if you have not yet played on those maps.
LoveGlaDOS - 8/10
- Elevator sound blocked at start
- Graphics OK (power lines two times too large)
- Destroyed the two cubes at once, and only one was given back
- Difficulty OK, not too difficult, not too easy
- Great variety of puzzles
- Good duration
Tunneling Chamber - 6/10
- Graphics OK
- I really hate tunneling
- A bit short
- Lack of explainations
Nadez Portal - 4/10
- Poor visual quality
- Textures not properly lined up
- No ambient sounds
- Big problems of brushworking
- Buttons not activated by the player
- Then the map crashed my game
- No power lines to indicate what activates what
- Too small, impossible to move with the cube
- Puzzles WAY too easy
- Endgame without even entering the elevator..?
Wrips Challenge - 3/10
- Poor lighting quality
- Poor texturing quality
- Possible to pickup the portalgun without walking on the grate
- Puzzles WAY too easy
- Second part really UGLY
- Turrets didn't fire on the third part
- Useless "secret" rooms
- Boring third part
- The end is poor..
Rainbow Palace - 7/10
- GREAT use of the no-portalgun situation
- Great visual quality
- The fan part was not as enjoyable (not well placed)
- Didn't understood the last part (with the goo gap)
- Good duration
Simple Chamber - 5/10
- Great visual quality
- A bit frustrating
- WAY too short
- Don't know what to say..
A Pl3sant Debut - ?/10
- Stuck at start, I think the room is supposed to go down, but nothing happens, everything remains silent
- Nocliped to the rest of the room, but I kept getting stucked everywhere..
- I don't seem to understand at all what I'm supposed to do
Aldéz's Test - ?/10
- Caould't launch it

Holy shit you're right! That was my fault, you didn't upload it to our download database so I didn't see it. I added it to the voting now, sorry! _________________

A comment about Wrips map that hasn't been said yet:
In the room immediately below where you get the portal gun, if you try to fire a portal onto the ceiling, it consistently crashes the game. |

yeah.. i tried it (i kid not) 5 times... after the 5th time i said "f-this" and never played it again. i should either be allowed to shoot a roof, or make it non portable. cuz i was getting pissed.
don't even know if the rest of the game was good or fun and didn't care. 5 crashes is 5 crashes to many. |

OK. I've tried all the maps.
The two best maps were Loveglados and Rainbow Palace, imho.
I'm not sure why loveglados was in this contest as it had been posted to twp a while ago.
My only problem with loveglados was it was too staid.
I really enjoyed the puzzles in Rainbow Palace. I especially liked the adrenaline rush from the ambush. Therefore, I have placed my vote for Rainbow Palace. _________________ --

As long as you made it in the time frame of the contest, you can post it and make a thread about it at any time - you just can't change the map after that point until the contest is finished. |

Yeah, that was entered on a technicality. In the future I need to make it more clear that you cannot have a WIP thread about a map prior to the end of the contest. But, since the map was not updated between initial WIP release and the contest ending, I'm okay with it. Live and learn I guess. _________________

Neither Simple Chamber nor Rainbow Palace run when I click on them in the bonus maps section. I unzipped both of them into the portal\portal\maps folder. No error, just nothing happens. Suggestions? _________________ So THAT'S how you do that! |

i have this happen from time to time if i put a map in a folder that is not EXACTLY where the .bns wants it. either you put it in the WRONG folder, or its bunk, what i ~usually~ do (if the .bns and the .bsp are in the same folder) is open the .bns with a text editor and erase any folder names before the BSP file name and add a ./ instead
if you have no idea what i'm talking about... then just try to re-extract it :-p if that still doesn't work. then figure out what i'm talking about |

ha ha ha...
I figured it out. Portal wants their folders in the maps folder, not the files alone. Thanks. _________________ So THAT'S how you do that! |

Doh, I forgot to explain that in the post I made yesterday. Good that you figured it out though. |
