Maybe they were concerned about the Wii's audience. Most people who like shooters, buy an Xbox or a Playstation. The Wii's got a few shooters, but most of them are crap. The only one I know that isn't, is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but it's also slightly an adventure game. However, there is a 'grown-up' shooter coming to the Wii with Xbox-like graphics (at least that's what the developer called them), called 'The Conduit'. Search it on YouTube.
But I wouldn't count on portal-hopping on the Wii any time soon. They would need to go to all the trouble they also encountered with the Xbox again, and since the Orange Box games are already out for almost a year, it simply wouldn't pay off to port them now to the Wii. Maybe they will port games to Wii in the future. _________________

I have no doubt that they're still making fat stacks of cash off the Wii version.
I also find the audience argument unlikely. The game's T for Teen for a reason.
It's also unlikely that it's simply that there are no Wii programmers at Valve, since they had a company port it to PS3 where they had no strength.
My guess is just that the Wii can't run the Source engine with all of the Orange Box upgrades (think HDR, here) and trying to trim it down is a non-trivial task. I'm reminded of the recent interview by Gamers With Jobs of the lead developer on Skate for the Wii, that, in order to preserve its physics engine's fidelity, can only render a fraction of the number of entities of the PS3 or 360 version. _________________

granted. i own a wii. and even nintendo themselves don't try to boast about the graphics. its not about the graphics power and shit. its about fun. i really don't see them porting ANY of the hl2 stuff to wii. it just doesn't have the power. without making it retarded. Which is why i bought a wii in the first place. if i wanted to drop $600 on a gaming system, i'd spend a little more (not much really) and get a computer that can play games, AND do everything else that a pc does. and have alot more options on games without dropping $69 for each game that doesn't do updates, bug fixes, user content etc etc etc etc
what was the topic again?
oh yeah i want some fucking legos bitch! LEGO MY LEGO! _________________

Oh, the engine is not the problem. For example, the Wii game Boom Blox uses the Havok-engine, and the Source-engine is nothing else than an adjusted Havok-engine.
But game developers have acted in mysterious ways since Pong. We probably just have to wait and see if Valve is gonna do anything with the Wii.
That rimed. Not on purpose. _________________

You do know that Havok is simply a physics engine, right? As in, it's only purpose is to calculate how objects interact with each other. Graphic rendering is an entire different thing, which Source as written completely for itself. |

Well, appearantly I have once again embarrased myself by talking about stuff I don't know very much about and saying stupid things... my apologies, from now on I'll refrain from talking about topics I don't know enough about. _________________
