I figure some of you might be interested in seeing what I'm working on.
I am building a fairly large single level map which has eight separate rooms.
In order to exit the main hall, which the player gets locked into once they enter, they must complete the challenge in each room. Once all eight rooms are completed the exit door unlocks.
There may or may not be a final end challenge at the end.
The challenges get progressively more difficult (at least I hope) and interesting mechanics are introduced in each room which eventually are used in combination.
The feel of the map is quite dark. I may actually need to lighten it up a bit more if there are any complaints.

Currently I am only finished with the main hall and room number 1. Room number 2 is 50% completed.

Screenshots:

Main hall at entrance.

Rooms 1, 3, 5, & 7. The number above each door lights up when the room is completed.

A view into the exit area from the main hall. The large panels on the wall light up as rooms are completed.

A view into room 1 from its hallway.

Inside room 1. Behind the player is a "keyhole" which the cube must be placed into for the door to open.

Very different, I like where you're going with this. Proceed.

Damn msleeper, you moved this while I was in the middle of a reply...

Hey, first of all, I like the look of the strip lighting along the ceiling rather than along the floor, like usual.

Looks like fun, can't wait to try it out.

There are lighting strips along the ceiling in Portal.

Thanks for the comments.
I'll see about posting a playable WIP once I complete 4 rooms.

My bad - it's been a while since playing through the original... Usually, though, mappers stick to floor lights.

Back on topic - can't wait to give it a whirl!

I like (and use) ceiling strip lighting too. It's delicious when prepared correctly.

Wow, that looks good, but you are right, it is too dark indeed. I see there are white lights. I suggest you give the lights their "portal-like colour" (blueish), and lighten the rooms up more, and you will have a great map Wink

Ahh.. this takes me back to the days when I only had Portal: The First Slice and HL2:DM from that free NVidia deal thingy, and I used to play on my favorite server [GU] Coop, I always loved the puzzles maps (since I couldn't DM for shit because there were no servers near me so I lagged heaps) and you would have to complete all the puzzles to open the 12th or 13th puzzles teleporter. I especially remember everyone glitching the battery's to open the 12th or 13th door before we had completed all the other puzzles. Good times.
Can't wait to give this a try!
