hi,

i just wanted to release my map in the work in progress section, for testing, but i ve no access?

Read the forum rules. -Hober

ok, so ill release it here, you may give me access then ill release it in the WIP thread too.

---------------

i startet in january 2008 with the first steps in creating a simple room and two buttons to learn and figure out how hammer works. this first room ist now the startroom.

i had a plan of three big rooms, where you have to collect some infos to solve the puzzle in the 4th, the last room. but from february until end of may a had no time and enthusiasm to work on. in middel of june i started workin on the first big room and found out that if ill do all 4 big rooms, ill end up with work after christ-mas 2008 Smile so i truncated the maps and decided to make only one big room. but while testing and testing the map again, i discovered new additional puzzels and the map grows.

as a big fan of the puzzle adventures series MYST (riven, unleashed, aso), i wanted to put some similar puzzles into my map. so not every button and its function is directly guided through the indicator lines. finde out what button effects which door etc. as an homage on the myst series i included a small soundfile from the first myst-adventure as an loopable soundscape.

i also edited four more soundscapes that enhance the atmosphere on several parts of the game. i like to play around with soundelements as you will hear. i used sony soundforge and many different soundpatterns, also some from halflife (combine intercom...) there are two glados like soundfiles, i made with melodyne, manipulating a text-to-speech soundfile made with atnt speech-generator homepage. i also created some new signs, "hint-displays" and the cryo-lab logo.

my brother tested the first part of the game but this may only be a 30% of the whole map. so i cant guarantee there are no plot and puzzle errors.

thank you for your support and bug reports,

zoolook

Looks great, but should have made a new topic. . .

Also, Next time use Filefront. People don't wanna wait 75 seconds for the download. [/code]

Fix'd.

Also, zoo, I chastised you twice for not reading the rules, so to prove I'm not a complete jerk, I went ahead and split this off into the WIP forum. (Usually, I don't move WIP threads until they're hosted here on TWP, but this is a ... special occasion.)

Anyways, the pic you have here looks sweet, but don't forget some honest to god screenshots in this thread and also on the file download page. Looks like a solid effort.

Let the testing begin.

hey, thanx for moving to WIP section, and the "special accasion" thing Smile in the meanwhile ive read the forum rulez Smile....ok

could you pleaze call the title "Escape from CryoLab". finaly i turned "cryo chamber" into cryolab because its more a laboratory than a chamber Smile

have fun, and i hope there are not too much bugs. i played that map a thousand times, but knowing how to solve it. so i didnt act any "unusual", because i know tha way out ...ok thats why we test the map Smile

note: first i wanted to make a striclty portal style map, but having in hammer the sweet and awesome (dirty) textures (and models) from the halflife environment as well, i cant resist to use them Smile

may be i should add some intro text to explain the (a) story, and to make the beginning more theatrically Smile

Oops, my bad. I say Filefront to HL2 mappers, or non public maps. Yep, I'll be playing map soon.

I'm stucked at first rocket launcher, really.

He is weird, he don't break the glass behind him, and the only glass can be broken, the one with the text "over there", it's a dead end and after breaking that the cube behind the launcher disappeared

Wtf?

You should be able to rename it yourself. Just click "edit" on the first post and change the "subject" line.

Well this needs a lot more polish and DEFINITELY a better ending (GAME OVER? FUCK YOU! Cool ) however the atmosphere you created was incredibly good and some of the puzzles were really mindbending and innovative.
For a first map this is very nice.
Things to improve:

- its really hard for the rocket to move the cube. You should do something with that cube's physics to have it knock back much further
- Use metal panels or doors instead of glass (except of course for breakable glass) . it gets very confusing.
- Cameras arent detachable
- Signs and power strips are a mess.
- I'm pretty sure there is a bug with one of the doors. You know where you have to fling up to go to the cemetery? There's a door stuck down there in a very awkward position
- lots of more stuff but i cant remember...

hey, thanx for your testing work and suggestions.
i am glad to hear it is possible to get it to the end Smile
yes the ending sucks ... a little Smile i am already working on a final room.

to the rocket-cube thing: only one of the 2 cubes is physically able to be thrown from the button by the rocket. put it on the edge of the button and...no problem...but you are right...it should be more obvious that one cube is "a light one".

ill continue work tomorrow...

hi infernet,

you are right , its a little confusing that the glass behind the rocketlauncher cant be broken. i must change this. to play it right you have to kick one of the two cubes from the button by the rocket. than the door upright opens and the glas behind the rocketlauncher

Hey, so just got around to playing this one... I liked where it was going, and it seemed well designed, but it kind of falls flat for me... There were just little things, like as mentioned before w/ the cube, among other things:

I ended up getting stuck in the room room with the fire pit in the middle, and I don't know if there was something wrong with the new bsp or not (I only played the new one), but I just no-clipped past... It seemed like there should have been a portal-able surface on the arm that comes out, but alas, there was not.

Also, in the large room with water, I'm on such a shitty computer that I couldn't make out the angled pieces in the tv screen thing, so that hindered my experience

Then, when I finally got the door in the first room open, I couldn't figure out how to get back there... this is where I gave up for now.

In all, I did a lot of noclipping, and still had trouble figuring out what in the deuce I was supposed to be doing, which doesn't bode well for the map. I'm not saying that you are a terrible mapper at all - in fact, I like the level design a lot - with some refinements, it could be an awesome map.

You've got some really cool screen shots, and the map looks awsome, but I just got done trying to play it, and it seems to me that you've got to much going on. I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing or what some of the buttons even did when I pressed them. I think it should be scaled back.
