Portal: Test Subject #13
I though it was about time I made a propper thread for this, in the right place.
I will be going ahead with this project since the overall reception (on this site and another) was pretty good.
The story:
You are the 13th subject of Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device tests.
You wake up in the relaxation vault and an alternate GLaDOS guides you through your second set of 20 tests.
Developer commentary
Major changes from Portal:
The AI voice is male.
You are male.
The process so far:
The first 13 maps have been roughed out using the developer textures.
The first 6 maps have been tested by myself and 3 others.
I have ideas stored up for later levels, (lots of BTS).
The first 5 maps have a script for the AI.
A grand ending is being formulated.
Yet to be done:
A trailer will be made, probably using fly through of levels, possibly a little of in-game footage
I'll send the whole mod to a reviewer once it is in the finalisation stages so you guys can have a preview.
What I will reqire from the comunity (thats you lot):
Testers - I will distribute a set of maps, usually about 5-10 maps at a time to a few people to get them tested.
A male player model and skin - Plenty of time left for this one, If anyone sees a model somewhere that is free for people to use, link me and I will investigate
Support - Unless you lot keep telling me how good this will be it may not see the light of day, but lets not think about that just yet, at the moment it is going well.
ETA: When It's done
The next set of 5 maps is currently being tested - 24/11/07
Thats it. All discussion about this mod now goes in this thread. _________________ Fancy making a payload map?

Sounds like an expansion or map theme pack. A mod would actually modify the core gameplay.
Also, the plot sounds hella derivative. You'll have to do a good job of telling some story that doesn't make it feel like another Portal Map Pack with GLaDOS imitations.
(P.S. I just woke up, and I'm always cranky when I just wake up. But I think the points are valid.) _________________

They are valid, I agree it is more an expansion pack than a mod, but I couldn't really think of anything else to call it. And I don't like the idea of calling it a map pack, because that sounds cheap.
You are right about it being kind of un-original, I'll be working on the story specifics at a later date, but I've got some stong ideas tucked up my sleeves to make it different. Nothing too cliché I hope _________________ Fancy making a payload map?

I'm willing to be a tester, if you need anymore.
I could also help with any modeling, texturing, or audio creation you might need. _________________

What are you able(and willing) to do?
| espen180 wrote: | | I'll move this to WIP as soon as you post a demo. |
Could be a while. I don't wan't to openly distribute any maps untill its ready really. I guess I could polish up the first 2 chambers or something and release those as a 'taster'

Its the same one, just now it has its own thread its more official

Thanks, I don't think I will have any problem with finding testers, I imagine this thread will be flooded with people saying 'sounds cool, I'll test for you' _________________ Fancy making a payload map?

The next 5 maps have been sent out for testing, please don't make comments directly related to the maps themselves here.
Anything that isnt about the maps themselves is still welcome though.
This will bring the total of maps tested once to 11 _________________ Fancy making a payload map?

[support] This sounds like its going to be great. Looking forward to the final release. [/support]
I'd offer to map test, but I'm not around here everyday, and I'd almost rather wait for the finished product. |

I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the guys who have helped me test this so far. This really wouldn't be posible (and fun) without you.

Also, who moved this to the WIP section? it has no playable content. At least, not that everyone can play. Although I will strive to get a demo out as soon as I can, I'll make a map with one of the new technologies in it for you. _________________ Fancy making a payload map?
